Today is the day that Rachel gets married…
Rachel is the friend who has patience which knows no end. The one that makes you want to be a better friend, and when you fail miserably yet again due to the beast of migraines, all she does is smile and say ‘thats okay, there will always be a next time, a new day’.
Rachel is the friend who knows all sorts of things that you never thought to think of. The one who will make up top ten movie lists which will take the better part of a day because, ‘Lyndal ten is just too hard, too small of a number, can i have a genre, then maybe a decade, then maybe a year in that decade and then maybe I can think about doing it?’ but will push herself to write ten, okay twelve just so you can have a start on some decent movie education. The friend that when you get stuck on the first two words of a uni assessment question will sit and talk you through it and then listen to you talk yourself through it and nod and smile the whole time so you actually believe that yes, maybe you can do it, and maybe, you just might pass.
Rachel is the friend who appreciates your warped sense of humour. Who understands that when asking a question a completely acceptable response is ‘Your Mum’ or ‘Your Face’ and will laugh. Every. Single. Time. and will not think you are a complete idiot. She is also the one where offering to chase people with forks to stab them in the eyeball, or punch her in the face to assist with sleeping is a perfectly acceptable offer and is taken with gratitude.
Rachel is the person who will talk you through panic attacks, and make you feel that she has every second that is ever left in the world to just sit until you are breathing normally again and can stand up and walk. She is the friend who will drop everything and do whatever it is she can to help, or fill a need and disregard or put aside anything that is going on in her life because her friend needs her. The friend that you won’t ever hear complain, or get down, or have a whinge. The friend who is always completely surprised and so touched by gifts and kind words even when she is well deserving and entitled to them!
Rachel is the friend who makes the life time commitment to be a friend. The one who realises that friendships take work and are worth the investment. The one where once you are her friend, you will be her friend until you are both 80 and sitting in the nursing home with saggy boobs and rocking chairs. I call these friends ‘lifers’, Rachel prefers ‘leeches’.
Rachel is the friend that everyone should have – the one who will bend over backwards and keep going to the moon and back to make sure you know you are loved, and supported. The one who makes you want to be better, but just as you are is so awesome and fantastic.
Rachel is one of my best friends….
and today is the day racheroo gets married!
There will be tears, there will be a lot of tears, but there will be so much laughter, and even more love. And I couldn’t think of a more blessed, a more beautiful, more deserving bride. Today is your day girlfriend.
